Ashton Hall & Park

Aston Hall, built for Sir Thomas Holte between 1618 and 1635, is a magnificent Grade I Listed Jacobean mansion sitting in a Grade II Listed park setting. It is a nationally significant site and a remarkable survival located in the heart of inner-city Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council and its principal funding partners Aston Pride New Deal for Communities and Heritage Lottery Fund came together to create this £12.5 million scheme of building and landscape works to secure the site’s future and enable it to fulfil its potential both as a major cultural heritage asset and a high quality resource for the local community.

The project consisted of the following elements: -

  • Conservation and refurbishment of parts of Aston Hall, including creating a new Life Long Learning Centre
  • Redevelopment of ‘at risk’ Stables into improved community and visitor facilities (reception/cafe/shop) and new ‘Hands-on’ Community Gallery
  • Exposure, consolidation and interpretation of buried archaeological remains of original parts of the Stables and Icehouse
  • Works to Park and Garden, including additional perimeter security, lighting, CCTV, replanting the historic gardens, improved vehicle access and car parking, general landscaping plus new pathways and planting schemes
  • Improvements and additions to the Park’s recreational and sports facilities, including artificial football pitch, children’s play area, three grass football pitches, high quality cricket pitch and Community Sports Pavilion

Having worked previously with Birmingham City Council and its funding partners to deliver the highly acclaimed restoration of Birmingham Town Hall, Invigour was appointed to support the City Council’s Project Director by leading a team of internal and external consultants and undertaking the role of Project Manager under an NEC Contract.

The project was delivered using the City Council’s Partnering Framework with consultation with local people being a key factor in shaping the scope of the scheme.

Invigour managed a diverse range of client side inputs; relationships with key stake-holders and combined team of internal and external consultants, delivering this complex project within budget and enabling the facilities to re-open on schedule to the public.
